Introduction:
The Department of Physics was established in June 1966 by the founder Head, the late Principal K. D. Gadiya. Through his initiative and dynamic academic leadership, a post-graduate course in Physics was introduced in 1970. This department holds the distinction of being the first to offer a Post-Graduate course in Physics with Electronics as a special subject in the Marathwada region. This was followed by the launch of the Under-graduate course in Electronics in 1982 and the Computer Science undergraduate course on a self-financed basis in 1992.
The Department has grown steadily under the visionary guidance of eminent professors, including the late Principal K.D. Gadiya, Dr. S.K. Desai, the late Dr. B.B. Laud, Prof. K.R. Patil, Dr. L.D. Nehate, Dr. S.P. Bhandari, and Prof. S.J. Lahoti. The late Principal Gadiya brought together a dedicated faculty of scholars and teachers while securing vital funding for the department. Consequently, the department has achieved academic excellence, particularly at the post-graduate level, with its students frequently topping the M.Sc. Physics merit list of the University since its inception.
Over the past four decades, rapid advancements in electronics concepts, theories, devices, and applications have transformed the field into a cornerstone of Electronics Engineering and Technology. Former heads—notably the late Principal K.D. Gadiya, Principal G.R. Shikachi, Prof. K.R. Patil, and Prof. S. J. Lahoti along with present Principal Dr. R.S. Agrawal, have consistently steered the department to remain at the technological forefront. The faculty has further contributed by actively engaging in research, organizing seminars, workshops, and conferences, and building strong institutional linkages. Notably, Dr. M.L. Kurtadikar and Prof. B.H. Pawar laid the foundation for the department's robust research culture, which has to date yielded over twenty-five Ph.D. degrees, more than ten M.Phil. degrees, and over one hundred research papers.

            In recognition of its outstanding contributions, the department has received substantial grants and approvals from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. Key milestones include:
The launch of the innovative post-graduate course M.Sc. Industrial Automation in 2011.
The introduction of the B.Voc. (Industrial Automation) program in 2019.
The prestigious grant from the DST under the FIST (Funds for Improvement of Science & Technology) Programme.
The curriculum has continuously evolved to meet modern educational standards. The department has offered a Choice Based Credit and Grading System (CBCGS) since June 2015, which is revised every five years by the University Board of Studies, followed by the implementation of the NEP-2020 curriculum in June 2023 to further enhance student skill sets.
