Research facilities are available in the Physics Department leading to a Ph.D. degree starting from the academic year 1988–89.
Facilities available for research in the fields of:
• Microwave dielectrics (solids and liquids)
• Astronomy and Astrophysics
• Time domain Spectroscopy
• Ultrasonic spectroscopy
• Material science
• Quantum Computing, etc.
• Automated Observatory: The department features a 12-inch automated observatory setup for night and solar observations, initiated by faculty members in collaboration with IUCAA, Pune. Additionally, we provide standard laboratory facilities for research students. The telescope is routinely used for night sky observing programs for students from rural schools, as well as for Avishkar innovative projects and the Chhote Scientists program. •
• Microwave Bench Setup: Our research laboratory consists of 5 automated microwave benches: X-bench, J-bench, C-bench, S-bench, and L-bench, ranging from 1.6 GHz to 12 GHz. Using this range, researchers can perform dielectric analysis for any solid (in powder form) or liquid.
• Chemical Parameter Measurement:
Chemical parameters (Electrical conductivity (EC), Organic carbon (OC), Calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sulfur (S), sodium (Na), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), and copper (Cu)) measurement facility is available in the department.
• Heat Ovens:
Two temperature-controlled heat ovens are available for material heating.
• Department Library
The departmental library has a collection of over 1,200 textbooks and reference books. UG, PG, and Ph.D. theses of students who have been awarded their respective degrees are also available for reference work.
• Computer and Internet Facility
The department has a well-equipped computer and internet facility for conducting practical sessions in microprocessors and microcontrollers. Wi-Fi connectivity is available throughout the department and is actively utilized by students.
